Fast Spin-Echo Imaging of Inner Field-of-Views Using 2D-Selective RF Excitations
نویسنده
چکیده
Introduction Image blurring due to the signal decay along the echo train as well as the RF energy deposited by the refocusing RF pulses limit the applicability of high turbo factors, i.e. a large number of echoes per shot, in fast spin-echo imaging [1], in particular at higher static magnetic fields. In this work, 2D-selective RF (2DRF) excitations [2,3]are used to focus the field-of-view (FOV) to a small inner volume without aliasing in the phase-encoding direction. This reduces the image blurring as the k-space velocity in the phase-encoding direction can be increased but also reduces the number of echoes required and thus the acquisition time and the RF deposited. This is demonstrated in phantoms and the human brain at 3T where even in single-shot acquisitions high in-plane resolutions could be realized.

Assessment of the Characteristics of MRI Coils in Terms of RF Non-Homogeneity Using Routine Spin Echo Sequences
Introduction: One of the major causes of image non-uniformity in MRI is due to the existence of non-homogeneity in RF receive and transmit. This can be the most effective source of error in quantitative studies in MRI imaging. Part of this non-homogeneity demonstrates the characteristics of RF coil and part of it is due to the interaction of RF field with the material being imaged...
متن کاملFast 3D UTE Imaging of Knee Connective Tissues on a Clinical 3T Scanner
INTRODUCTION Connective tissues in human knee joint, such as articular cartilage, menisci, or ligaments, have short transverse relaxation time components (T2 ~5ms) due to their collagen-rich micro-structures (1). To image those short-T2 components with minimum signal loss, special pulse sequences capable of ultra-short echo time (UTE) are desired. A number of UTE sequences have been developed i...
متن کاملPhase relaxed localized excitation pulses for inner volume fast spin echo imaging
PURPOSE To design multidimensional spatially selective radiofrequency (RF) pulses for inner volume imaging (IVI) with three-dimensional (3D) fast spin echo (FSE) sequences. Enhanced background suppression is achieved by exploiting particular signal properties of FSE sequences. THEORY AND METHODS The CPMG condition dictates that echo amplitudes will rapidly decrease if a 90° phase difference b...
متن کاملMultiband RF Excitation for Accelerating Magnetic Resonance Imaging in the Presence of Metal
Target Audience: Researchers interested in MR methods for imaging near metallic implants. Purpose: Recent 3D multispectral imaging (MSI) techniques have dramatically reduced off-resonance artifacts near metal by acquiring multiple 3D-FSE acquisitions at different RF offsets and summing over all RF bins. In-plane distortion, however, remains a problem in areas with extreme local B0 gradients due...
متن کاملTwo-dimensional spatially-selective RF excitation pulses in echo-planar imaging.
Two-dimensional spatially-selective RF (2DRF) excitation pulses were developed for single-shot echo-planar imaging (EPI) with reduced field of view (FOV) in the phase-encoding direction. The decreased number of k-space lines significantly shortens the length of the EPI echo train. Thus, both gradient-echo and spin-echo 2DRF-EPI images of the human brain at 2.0 T exhibit markedly reduced suscept...
